What are the best tools to help with SAFETY for Visually Impaired Travelers?

FEELING ANXIOUS ABOUT TRAVEL SAFETY?

Traveling with a visual impairment can present unique challenges, but the right tools can make a significant difference. You might feel anxious about finding your way or handling emergencies, but with the right resources, you can travel confidently and safely.

1. GPS Apps: Find the right app for you and the country you will be traveling, so that you are able to navigate smoothly around the country.

2. Safety Apps: Apps like Be My Eyes and Aira connect visually impaired travelers with sighted volunteers or professionals who can assist remotely via video calls.

3. Personal Alarms: Carry a personal safety alarm that can emit a loud sound in case of emergencies, drawing attention and deterring potential threats.

4. Braille and Audio Labels: Use Braille or audio labels on your belongings to easily identify them. This is particularly useful for medication and important documents.

5. Use your Cane: Always bring your cane. Even if you are not 100% comfortable with it yet. Your cane is foldable and make sure to use it or at least bring it in your bag.

These tools can empower you to travel independently and with confidence. Embrace technology and innovative solutions to make your travel experience safer and more enjoyable.
